R. Balakrishna Pillai Contesting Upcoming Kerala Assembly Polls

R. Balakrishna Pillai of Kerala Congress (B) is planning to contest the Kottakkara Assembly seat in the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. I was shocked to read this news on the web edition of a renowned Malayalam daily. How can the UDF let this happen? After all, Keralites boast themselves of being the most literate and politically conscious people in India, and don't spare an opportunity to taunt the north Indian populace for their lack of education and enlightenment, when criminals contest polls in that part of the country.

Pillai is a convict, found of guilty by the apex court of the country for his role in the Edamalayar Corruption case, and is currently languishing behind the bars in Thiruvananthapuram. Though Pillai and his UDF colleagues are shouting from rooftops about his innocence, for an average citizen of India, he is no better than a criminal.

I am not a supporter of the LDF. Enough of their hypocrisy and petty politicking. Ideological nit-picking is the curse of this Front. The faster they are out, the better. But if the UDF goes ahead with Pillai's candidature for the polls, it will be a weapon for the LDF to beat the UDF with. Already, the ghost of Pamolein case is haunting the Congress, and the Ice Cream case has come alive with the recent revelations. Until a few months ago the UDF stood great chance to win a comfortable majority in the elections, but now with its own suicidal decisions, the prospects are getting grimmer.
