The dispute between INC and DMK regarding seat allocation in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has ended. According to NDTV, the DMK has finally come around to agreeing to the INC demand for 63 seats in the State elections. DMK will concede 61 seats and its regional allies will give 2 seats. TN assembly has 234 seats.
The stalemate regarding seat allocation has cast a pall of uncertainty over the future of the UPA government in New Delhi. DMK had threatened to pull out its ministers from the union cabinet. But the INC stuck to its guns, and a meeting between Pranab Mukherji, Dhayanidhi Maran and M.K. Alagiri held this afternoon in the capital saw the DMK surrendering to the INC demand.
In TN, INC is extending support from outside to the DMK government to keep it in power. If the alliance secures a majority in the upcoming elections, Congress is looking to join the government.
